Chapters 4+5
1. One of the most efficient ways to complete every day tasks is to complete them as a routine. Once you are in a routine, there is a lot less thought that needs to go into the work making it quite easier. Businesses use processes that are the same nearly every day. It speeds up work and reduces the chance of mistakes. This is what Edwards Deming means when he speaks of the Lather, Rinse, Repeat method. Every day when we take showers we don't even think about our routine, but go through the motions. This is just as businesses do when they are always completing their day to day tasks.
2. Measuring metrics is a huge part of improving your business day in and day out. There are certain metrics that mean more than others depending on what company you work for. Some metrics that are most important to look at may be focus on objectives, measuring efficiency or measuring effectiveness of an action. Marketing's set of metrics is critical when it comes to measuring the progress towards a provided objective. Objectives must be set so that you understand how you are getting better. Without setting objectives and goals, it is hard to tell whether your company is improving or not.
3. Marketing is a very competitive sport, especially when you as a company are just starting up and merging yourself into the game. Every company is looking for new ways to get an advantage over their competitors. This is done by studying old tactics and strategies but also by testing new ones. The hardest and most critical part of the journey of making yourself known through marketing all starts with the first step. This first step outlines your plan and is the key to becoming successful. This is what David Raab speaks of when he talks about getting set up in the, "Ready, Set, Go!" article.
